The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has warned against the possession and sale of Bonheur rice on the Ghanaian market.
The product according to the FDA is purported to have originated from Abidjan and has been linked to consumer fatalities due to adulteration with harmful substances.
In a notice released on July 3, 2024, FDA disclosed the product is not registered with the FDA and despite the product not being on the Ghanaian market, it is urging the general public to be vigilant and report to the nearest FDA office if found anywhere.
“The public is strongly advised to exercise caution when purchasing packaged food items and promptly report any suspicious product to the FDA”.
FDA further noted that it will continue to closely monitor the market to prevent the presence of Bonheur rice on our market.
