The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has issued a statement alerting the general public about contaminated eyedrops owned by Global Pharma.
The two eyedrops, EZRICARE ARTIFICIAL TEARS AND DELSAM PHARMA’S ARTIFICIAL TEARS are said to contain the drug-resistant bacteria pseudomonas aeruginosa.
According to a statement released by the FDA, the products are not registered with the Ghana FDA and therefore should not be commercially available on the Ghanaian market.
The statement also added that, the US centre for Disease Control and Prevention (USCDC) has classified the incident as an outbreak and is suspected to have led three death and vision loss in eight patients.
Again, Global Pharma has since issued a voluntary recall of the products.
However, the FDA is advising individuals who may have purchased the said eyedrops to immediately stop using them and submit them to any FDA offices nationwide.
The FDA also assures the public that it is taking all the necessary steps to ensure that only safe and effective medical products are available on the Ghanaian market.
