A caretaker at Ashaiman, who rented out a room to a female tenant for a year and extended it verbally by another year after entering into a romantic relationship with her has been asked to compensate the woman.
The tenant had refused to vacate the room even after getting pregnant by another man, but was still maintaining the relationship with the caretaker.
The woman argued that the caretaker who was managing the house in the landlord’s absence had extended her rent after claiming he owned the property, and therefore she was not vacating, though the initial duration had expired.
In a separate case, a landlord is said to have evicted a tenant after discovering him engaged in a sexual relationship with his wife.
These were contained in a report from the Ashaiman ADR Centre, which continues to resolve more of such cases.
