Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to economic stability and debt restructuring during a meeting with the German Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Daniel Krull.
The discussions, held in Accra, focused on Ghana’s ongoing economic reforms, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) program, and bilateral cooperation.
Dr. Forson expressed appreciation for Germany’s continued support in Ghana’s economic development, particularly in expediting debt restructuring efforts.
The minister underscored Ghana’s progress in addressing the IMF structural benchmarks that were missed under the previous administration, assuring that corrective measures are being implemented and will soon be evident.
On debt restructuring, Dr. Forson highlighted significant progress in negotiations and emphasized Ghana’s current priority—finalizing individual bilateral agreements with key creditors. He acknowledged Germany’s role in facilitating the process and called for continued collaboration to accelerate its completion.
The discussions also covered reforms in the energy sector, particularly efforts to clear arrears owed to Independent Power Producers (IPPs), which have been a major financial burden.
Ambassador Krull described the engagement as productive and reiterated Germany’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s debt restructuring efforts. He also expressed optimism about finalizing the bilateral agreements soon.
As Ghana pushes forward with economic reforms, the government remains committed to strengthening its partnership with Germany and ensuring long-term economic stability.
