A fire outbreak that engulfed several residential structures and commercial shops near the Regional Police Headquarters in Accra’s Central Business District has been successfully contained by personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
The incident, which attracted the attention of residents, traders, and commuters in the busy commercial enclave, prompted a swift emergency response from firefighters who raced to the scene to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby buildings.
According to fire officials, the blaze has been fully confined and is no longer capable of extending to adjoining properties. This development has brought relief to business owners and occupants of nearby structures who feared significant losses as thick smoke billowed from the affected area.
Firefighters remain at the scene conducting cooling operations to eliminate residual heat and prevent any possibility of re-ignition. The exercise is being carried out with the support of four fire engines and a water tanker deployed to the location.
Emergency responders worked tirelessly to bring the situation under control, while security personnel assisted in managing traffic and keeping onlookers at a safe distance.
The cause of the fire and the extent of damage to the affected buildings and shops are yet to be officially determined. Fire investigators are expected to begin assessments to establish the origin of the blaze and estimate the losses incurred by victims.
