The family home of the late Tamale Central Member of Parliament, Murtala Mohammed, was engulfed by fire on Wednesday, August 5, destroying nine of the 17 rooms in the building.

The Northern Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), ADO I Hudu Baba, said the Service received a distress call at 3:29 p.m., with firefighters arriving at the scene eight minutes later at 3:37 p.m.

Speaking to Channel One News, ADO I Hudu Baba said two schoolchildren who were trapped in one of the rooms were rescued by firefighters upon their arrival before efforts were made to bring the fire under control.

He added that investigations have begun to determine the cause of the fire and assess the full extent of the damage.
