The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has successfully contained a major fire outbreak at the Monte Carlo Pub and Restaurant in Tema Community 10, preventing any loss of life despite extensive damage to property.

The incident occurred on Friday, May 15, 2026, when emergency services received a distress call at 0701 hours reporting a rapidly spreading fire at the popular commercial facility.

Firefighters from the Motorway Fire Station were the first to respond, arriving at 0708 hours to find the blaze already engulfing parts of the building. The fire was brought under control at 0740 hours and fully extinguished by 0934 hours after hours of sustained firefighting efforts.

To support the operation, additional appliances were deployed from the Industrial Area, Ashaiman, Tema Regional Headquarters, and Newtown Fire Stations, reinforcing efforts to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby structures.

According to the GNFS, the fire completely destroyed the Monte Carlo Pub and Restaurant, including its dining area, cold room facilities, refrigerators and beverages. A nearby establishment, the Grant Avenue Food Joint, was also entirely burnt.

Portions of an adjoining welding shop and parts of the Monte Carlo sitting area were also affected by the blaze, though firefighters were able to prevent further structural collapse and wider destruction.

Despite the severity of the incident, emergency teams managed to salvage key assets, including two office spaces, sitting areas, two safes with their contents, and two storerooms, significantly limiting overall losses.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and investigations are currently underway to establish the circumstances that led to the outbreak.

The operation was led by the Tema Regional Fire Commander, ACFO II Patrick N. Sallah, with support from personnel of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Ghana Police Service, who assisted in securing the scene and ensuring public safety.

The GNFS commended the swift and coordinated response of all personnel involved, noting that their intervention prevented the fire from escalating further and protected adjacent properties from destruction.

The Service has meanwhile urged the public to observe fire safety precautions and to report emergencies promptly using its emergency numbers 112, 0302772446, or 0299340383.
