Fire has razed down entire groundnut processing yard  at Angola Mu, near the Tudu Market, a suburb of Nkawkaw in the Eastern Region. 

Fire has razed down entire groundnut processing yard  at Angola Mu, near the Tudu Market, a suburb of Nkawkaw in the Eastern Region.

The dreaded fire, according to reports, occurred at about 2am Thursday dawn, December 23, 2021.  Republic FM’s reporter, Gideon Nii Ansah who spoke to some of the affected traders, unspecified number of shops have been razed down by the fire.

Some of the traders, who received the shocking news revealed that, they had calls from close relatives who announced the unfortunate incident to them.

One of the traders who spoke in an interview on Republic FM said, they have been working in the area for over 30 years and such things has never happened but cannot suspect or blame anyone since it may be a human error factor.

Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the Kwahu West Municipal Ghana National Fire Service, DO3 Kwakye Addo in an interview with Kwame Koranteng on Anɔpa Dawuro on Republic FM stated that, the service received a distress call at about 2:37am Thursday dawn , informing the service about the fire outbreak.

Mr. Kwakye made it clear that, the service was able to arrive at the scene within four minutes and was able to douse the disparaging fire to its minimum level.

He stated, some properties, including seven wooden shops and some unidentified bags of rice were also destroyed. Among other things are, rolling machines and some personal belongings were burnt to ashes.

According to him, preliminary investigation revealed that, the fire flames used by the groundnut processing women were not quenched before they may have departed the yard but cannot establish that was the cause but argued that, the service is yet to begin full investigation into the incident.

Our mothers work with fire but we cannot establish what may have caused the fire but preliminary, we can say that they may have left a fire that wasn’t quenched well before they left, hence causing the fire outbreak”. Let’s wait till we are done with the investigation because some factors and variables may overturn whiles the investigation continues” he told Kwame Koranteng.

The PRO stated that, the entire Municipal has no single fire hydrant but insisted that, the Municipal Chief Executive, Lawyer Yaw Owusu Addo has been donate one fire hydrant.

Meanwhile, the Municipal National Disaster Management Organization says it is yet to conduct its reports and initiate process to assist the affected persons whiles the Fire service investigation continues.
