A terrible fire raced through many stores located at CMB, behind Kantamanto in Accra, destroying goods worth millions of Ghana cedis.
The fire broke out at approximately 5:00 a.m. on a Sunday, and its cause remains unknown at this time. Although firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded swiftly to the emergency, the flames had already engulfed numerous shops by the time they arrived.
ADO2 Alex Nartey, a Public Relations Officer of the GNFS, reported that various flammable objects were discovered at the scene of the fire.
Regrettably, when the fire was finally extinguished, it had left several shops in complete ruins. Many of the market traders voiced their frustration and sorrow over the incident, revealing that they had lost everything in the blaze.
In light of this unfortunate event, the GNFS is urging traders to exercise caution when handling electrical appliances and to refrain from storing flammable materials within their shops.
It is important to note that this is the second significant fire incident to occur at the CMB market in recent years, with a similar incident in 2020 resulting in the destruction of over 200 shops
