Following the recent electoral setback in Akwatia, Dr. Samuel Afriyie, a Political Scientist has called for sweeping changes within the NPP to rejuvenate the party.
He argued that all current executives lack the capability to drive the party forward, and that a new crop of leaders is essential for its success.
Dr. Afriyie urged the party to “sack all the executives and bring new crop of the leaders” while also stressing the importance of organizing internal elections.
He explained, “The party needs to come up with new ways [to] make the party more attractive.”
At the same time, he advised that the party should manage its current operations effectively and focus on electing its flagbearer to provide direction.
The call comes amid contrasting opinions from party officials. Deputy Director of Communications, Kokuro Asiedu, has maintained that losing the Akwatia by-election does not warrant the resignation of executives, emphasizing that the party is in a rebuilding phase and urging supporters to rally behind the current leadership.
Dr. Afriyie’s position, however, underscores the urgency for change if the NPP hopes to strengthen its structure ahead of future elections.
