The National Identification Authority (NIA) has issued a public notice reminding Ghanaians that the first-time issuance of the Ghana Card remains free at its 276 Operational District Offices nationwide.
At the same time, the authority has introduced fees for first-time issuance at its Premium Centres, following approval by the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana in 2023.
This move is intended to enhance service efficiency while maintaining transparency in fees for various identification-related services.
The Ghana Card serves as a vital national identification document, facilitating access to government services, financial transactions, and other essential activities.
According to the NIA, Ghanaians seeking the card at Premium Centres will pay GH₵310.00 for first-time issuance, GH₵125.00 for card replacement, and GH₵420.00 for record updates that require a new card.
Additionally, the NIA has set a GH₵70.00 fee for nationality updates, while record updates without a card replacement remain free at district offices but cost GH₵310.00 at Premium Centres.
The NIA encourages citizens to take advantage of its district offices for free first-time registrations while offering Premium Centres as an option for those who prefer expedited services.
The authority assures the public of its commitment to an efficient and transparent national identification system.
