An Accra-based Gender Violence Court has remanded a 29-year-old fisherman, Nii Baah Afful, into police custody for his involvement in an assault case.
The suspect, who was captured in a viral video attacking a woman carrying an 8-month-old baby, is set to reappear before the court on April 9, 2025.
According to the Accra Regional Police Command, the incident occurred on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Korle Gonno, a suburb of Accra.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect and the victim, 21-year-old Francisca Aryee, live together and have two children.
The altercation reportedly began when the victim attempted to leave for her mother’s house, prompting the suspect to pursue and physically assault her.
Following the circulation of the disturbing video, the Police Intelligence Unit swiftly intervened and arrested the suspect on Friday, March 22, 2025, around 5 p.m.
Authorities have confirmed that the victim has been located and is receiving medical care and counseling.
The Accra Regional Police Command has assured the public of its commitment to ensuring justice and protecting citizens from domestic violence.
