A 21-year-old fisherman, Michael Dodoo, popularly known as Akufo Addo, has been remanded into police custody by the Dansoman Circuit Court for his alleged role in a vehicle theft case at Accra Central.

Dodoo, who faces charges of conspiracy to commit crime, unlawful entry, and stealing, appeared before Her Honour Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Bassit on Thursday. He pleaded not guilty to all charges and is expected to reappear before the court on October 20, 2025.

Presenting the facts of the case, Chief Inspector Christopher Wonder, the prosecutor, told the court that Dodoo allegedly acted together with three accomplices — identified only as Prince, Amuquaye, and Sadiku — who are currently on the run.

The group is said to have conspired on September 20, 2025, to steal from a parked vehicle belonging to Seidu Mohammed, a businessman based in Koforidua.

The court heard that the complainant had parked his Opel vehicle in front of the UBA Bank at Accra Central and left it unlocked while he briefly crossed the road to buy tea.

Inside the vehicle was a bag containing two Tecno mobile phones, valued at GH¢3,500, and cash amounting to GH¢50,800.

The accused persons allegedly opened the vehicle, took the bag, and fled the scene. Acting on intelligence, police later arrested Dodoo, who was found in possession of two Tecno mobile phones that were subsequently identified by the complainant as his property.

During questioning, Dodoo reportedly confessed to participating in the theft with his accomplices.

He also claimed that a disagreement broke out among them during the sharing of the stolen money, leading to one of the group members absconding with the cash.

Police have since intensified efforts to locate and arrest the remaining suspects  Prince, Amuquaye, and Sadiku  as investigations continue into the incident.
