The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has successfully secured the arrest, prosecution, and conviction of five armed robbers involved in two violent attacks at Dome and ACP Junction.
This was disclosed at a press briefing held today, May 26, by the Accra Regional Police Commander, DCOP Duuti Tuaruka.
According to DCOP Tuaruka, the robbers were behind the May 11, 2025, attack on Jos Bakery at Dome and a February 5 robbery at ACP Junction. He said the convictions represent a major milestone in the Police Command’s efforts to clamp down on violent crime in the capital.
Convictions and Sentencing
Isaac Agbezudor, also known as “Money Man,” a 20-year-old mechanic, and his 19-year-old accomplice, Justice Akwasi Sarfo Oppong, alias “Gariba Manta” or “Demon,” were arrested for attacking the Jos Bakery Head Office in Dome.
The suspects, riding an unregistered motorbike, fired a locally made pistol into the air and robbed staff of a Tecno Pop 8 phone valued at GH₵1,500 and a handbag.
“Isaac Agbezudor was arrested on May 14 through a covert operation,” DCOP Tuaruka stated. “His confession led to the arrest of Gariba Manta on May 22 at a mining site between Osino and Saaman.
He then led investigators to a hideout at Sonitra, Amasaman, where we retrieved the weapon and ammunition used in the robbery.”
Both suspects were put before the Kwabenya Circuit Court. Agbezudor pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 10 years in prison on two counts, to run concurrently. Gariba Manta was also convicted and handed a 15-year prison term.
Further investigations linked Manta to another robbery at ACP Junction, committed with three other individuals — Bright Alikor, alias “Zaamani,” aged 21; Emmanuel Nii Odartey Lamptey, alias “Chameleon,” aged 23; and 19-year-old Prince Owusu, alias “Check Boy.”
The gang attacked a woman using a knife and scissors, making away with an iPhone 11 Pro Max, a Samsung tablet, and GH₵6,000 in cash. The victim suffered knife wounds during the assault.
“All three accomplices were arrested through targeted covert operations,” DCOP Tuaruka revealed. “They were each convicted and sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment by the Kwabenya Circuit Court.”
Ongoing Investigations and Public Assurance
The Accra Regional Police Command is now pursuing another suspect believed to have purchased the stolen iPhone 11 Pro Max in Koforidua.
DCOP Tuaruka praised the dedication of the intelligence and operational teams for their swift and professional handling of the cases.
“These convictions underscore our relentless commitment to tackling violent crime. The bravery and precision of our officers have paid off,” he said.
He urged the public to continue cooperating with the police by providing credible information.
“We want to assure residents that all information shared with us will be treated with the highest level of confidentiality. Together, we can keep our communities safe,” he concluded.
The Police Command reiterated its determination to intensify operations and ensure that criminals face the full rigour of the law.
