The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested five students of Central University in connection with the alleged sale and distribution of cannabis and cannabis-infused products on campus.
The arrests were made during a targeted operation following intelligence reports of suspected drug-related activities within the university community.
The suspects, who are enrolled in Levels 100, 300 and 400, are alleged to have been involved in the production and sale of various cannabis-infused products, including ice cream, sobolo, toffees, pepper and eggs. Investigators also suspect them of dealing in raw cannabis.
During the operation, NACOC officials seized quantities of the suspected substances, which have been sent for forensic analysis as part of ongoing investigations.
The Commission said the operation forms part of its efforts to combat the circulation and use of narcotic substances in educational institutions across the country.
NACOC further cautioned students against engaging in drug-related activities, stressing that offenders will face the full rigours of the law.
The five students remain in custody and are assisting with investigations as authorities work to determine the extent of the alleged operation and identify any additional individuals who may be connected to the suspected trade.
