The Deputy Minister of Energy, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam on the final day of the maiden African Energy Week in Cape Town, South Africa, lauded the initiative of the African Energy Chamber to bring together energy players to deliberate on issues of concern and reminded stakeholders of the huge potential Africa has regarding renewable energy.

He reiterated that member countries can expand their renewable energy as the world is gradually moving from fossil fuels.

“Africa is blessed with a lot of sunshine, water bodies and what have you. It is therefore time to capitalise on this abundant renewable energy so that as the world is gradually moving from hydrocarbons, it would be easier to adjust”, he said.

“Africa has the skill set to develop our renewable energy potential, but we can only do this with the right partnerships from interested parties across the world as well as investor communities”, he added.

Dr. Amin underscored how economies of African countries would be transformed when energy-related issues are dictated solely by the countries and not from investors.

The Deputy Minister lauded other African countries that had started utilising their renewable energy potential and stressed the need for other countries to follow suit.
