A food vendor and her 2-year old son have died from food poisoning, medically referred to as gastroenteritis, while two other family members are battling for their lives.
The incident reportedly happened at Atibie, a prominent town in the Kwahu South Municipality of the Eastern Region.
The deceased, identified as Taanii, who sells fufu at Mpraeso, and her child, were found unresponsive at home along with other family members, sparking a police investigation.
Osarfo Wiafe Emmanuel is the family’s landlord. According to him, they had gone to make sales before the incident occurred the night into the following morning.
“A day before the incident, the family went to sell the food and came back peacefully. We do not know what happened in the night. In the morning, they did not wake up,”
Their bodies have been deposited at the Kwahu Government Hospital in Atibie, awaiting autopsy, while the surviving relatives are undergoing intensive treatment at the facility.
The incident has raised concerns about food safety and public health awareness in the country.
Health authorities have cautioned the public to be vigilant about food hygiene and seek prompt medical care if they experience symptoms of food poisoning.
