A Dansoman Circuit Court has granted GH¢10,000 bail to a 30-year-old forest guard, George Nii Quaye, who is facing charges for allegedly possessing prohibited substances, including suspected narcotics and unregistered pharmaceutical drugs.

Presiding over the case, Her Honour Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit ordered that the bail be backed by two sureties, both of whom must be justified.

Quaye is also required to deposit his Ghana Card with the court registry and report to the police every two weeks in line with Article 19(2)(c) of the 1992 Constitution.

The accused has been charged under Section 29 of the Pharmacy and Drug Act, 1961 (Act 64) for unlawful possession of dangerous drugs.

He pleaded not guilty.

According to the prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Kwadwo Abongye, the incident occurred on July 25, 2025, at the VIP Bus Terminal at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.

The case was triggered by a report from a driver’s mate, who grew suspicious when Quaye attempted to dispatch a parcel to Dormaa Ahenkro, claiming it contained only clothing.

A search revealed 55 sachets of dried leaves suspected to be narcotics, along with 20 sachets of a substance labeled “Amnezia”, four sachets of Tapentadol (RED) 250mg, and 16 sachets of Timaking 120mg.

The listed pharmaceutical items, the prosecution noted, are not registered with the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) and are prohibited for sale in Ghana.

Following the discovery, Quaye was arrested and handed over to the police. A caution statement was obtained from him, and the seized substances were sealed in his presence for laboratory testing.

The prosecution is expected to file disclosures and witness statements ahead of the Case Management Conference, which is scheduled to commence on September 1, 2025.

Investigations into the matter remain ongoing.
