Former NDC Member of Parliament for the Ningo-Prampram constituency ET Mensah has died aged 77.
Born Enoch Teye Mensah on May 17, 1946, the former MP and Council of State Member was also a Minister of Education.
Information gathered revealed that ET Mensah died in South Africa after battling with health issues for some time.
ET Mensah joined the National Democratic Congress (NDC) when it was formed in 1992 and stood for the parliamentary election in 1996 and was elected MP for the Ningo-Prampram constituency.
He continued as a member of parliament even after the NDC lost the 2000 elections.
Mensah then lost the NDC primaries to Sam George on 21 November 2015.
During the time of the PNDC military regime in Ghana, he was the long-time Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), akin to being the Mayor of the City of Accra.
He once served as the Minority Chief Whip in parliament prior to the parliamentary election in 2008.
In January 2009, he became the Majority Chief Whip in Parliament.
He was also the Minister for Youth and Sports under President Jerry Rawlings.
In January 2010, after a cabinet reshuffle, President John Atta Mills appointed him Minister for Employment and Social Welfare.
ET Mensah was married with seven (7) children.
