Free Senior High School policy is working – Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo says the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy introduced by his Administration in September 2017, is currently guaranteeing that all Ghanaian children receive a minimum of Senior High School education.

President Akufo-Addo says the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy introduced by his Administration in September 2017, is currently guaranteeing that all Ghanaian children receive a minimum of Senior High School education.

According to President Akufo-Addo, six years on, following the implementation of the Free Senior High School programme, which has guaranteed a minimum of Senior High School education for 1.6 million Ghanaian children, he is very proud of the policy and its results thus far.

Speaking at the 70th Anniversary celebration of Opoku Ware School in Kumasi, the President stressed that “the experiences of developed nations have shown that the most efficient way to create a society of opportunities and thereby guarantee the future of a nation is by investing in education and skills training of the youth”.

Opoku Ware School was founded 70 years ago in 1952. As such, a rich programme of activities involving both present and past students, as well as the general public was put in place to celebrate the milestone.

The anniversary was launched in November 2021 and the ensuing programme officially commenced in January this year, climaxing with a grand durbar, which was graced by Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu as the Guest of Honour and President Akufo-Addo.

The year-long programme of activities was on the theme, “Seven Decades Of Leadership Through Self-Discipline”.

President Akufo-Addo said six years on, following the implementation of the Free Senior High School programme, he is proud of what has been achieved.
