The Conference of Heads of Private Schools-Cycle Schools (CHOPSS) has articulated the difficulties they have encountered following the introduction of the Free Senior High School policy over the past eight years.
In a conversation with Mr. Kyei-Baafour, the Director of Public Affairs of the Association, he observed that numerous private senior high schools faced a significant exodus of students due to the Free SHS policy, which adversely affected their enrollment and subsequently led to the collapse of many, while others remain operational despite the challenges they have endured.
He emphasized that the implementation of certain key policies by the private schools contributed to the survival of many institutions, notwithstanding the obstacles imposed by the Free SHS policy.
Mr. Kyei-Baafour underscored the significance of the Free SHS policy, emphasizing that while it is commendable, its execution and funding require meticulous consideration.
He proposed that integrating private and public Senior High Schools is the optimal approach to enhance educational excellence.
Thus, he urged the government to collaborate with private institutions that boast superior infrastructure by incorporating them into the CSSPS.
This would bolster both governmental and private entities, thereby minimizing infrastructure expenditures and allowing for greater investment in quality.
He asserted that this decision would facilitate job creation, as private schools would assist the government in employing more teachers, thereby alleviating unemployment among the Ghanaian youth.
