President John Dramani Mahama says the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy has not only been preserved but significantly strengthened.
Speaking at his media encounter in Accra on Wednesday, September 10, President Mahama addressed widespread misinformation that had been circulating before the December 7, 2024, elections.
He stressed that “Contrary to the widespread misinformation that was circulated before December 7, 2024, the Free SHS has not only been maintained. We’ve made the highest budget allocation in the history of the policy as of now,” he said.
Highlighting the government’s commitment, President Mahama revealed that a staggering GHS 3.5 billion has been dedicated to the Free SHS program this year, marking an unprecedented investment in Ghana’s education sector.
He also announced a significant boost to Ghana’s healthcare funding for 2025, highlighting the government’s commitment to strengthening the country’s health system amid rising domestic and global health challenges.
The President revealed that the national health budget has increased by 13.4%, rising from GHS 15.6 billion to GHS 17.8 billion.
