Petroleum prices at the pumps are expected to record marginal increases beginning Tuesday, September 1, 2026, according to projections by the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers Ghana (COPEC).
The expected adjustments affect petrol, diesel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), with the projected increases attributed largely to movements in international petroleum product prices despite a recent appreciation of the Ghana cedi against the US dollar.
COPEC’s analysis indicates that global crude oil prices declined marginally during the current pricing window, falling from $90.41 per barrel to $89.30 per barrel.
At the same time, the Ghana cedi recorded an appreciation against the US Dollar, with the average interbank exchange rate improving from $1 to GH¢11.800 at the beginning of the current pricing window to $1 to GH¢11.5166 at the close of the window.
This represents an appreciation of approximately 2.39%.
Despite the stronger Cedi and the marginal decline in crude oil prices, COPEC’s assessment shows that changes in the Free-On-Board (FOB) prices of refined petroleum products are likely to translate into higher retail prices at the pumps.
COPEC’s projection puts the expected retail price of petrol at approximately GH¢16.21 per litre.
This represents an estimated 5 percent increase over the current mean pump price of GH¢15.43 per litre.
The projected increase means motorists could see higher costs at filling stations from the beginning of September if oil marketing companies adjust their prices in line with the prevailing market conditions.
COPEC estimates that diesel could sell at approximately GH¢17.61 per litre in the next pricing window.
The projected price represents an estimated 2.58% increase over the current mean price of GH¢17.17 per litre.
Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is also expected to experience a marginal increase during the next pricing window.
COPEC projects that LPG will sell at approximately GH¢14.19 per kilogramme.
