The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has revealed that the government has secured a $2 billion fund from Korean investors to construct the Cape Coast Airport and restructure the country’s aviation sector.
He made this revelation during the party’s manifesto launch in Takoradi on Sunday, August 18, 2024.
Speaking at the launch, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia underscored the need to improve the country’s infrastructure as well as drive the aviation sector forward to boost economic growth.
He further pledged to facilitate the establishment of a private-sector-led Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility at Tamale Airport, positioning it as a key hub for aviation cargo, horticultural goods, and logistics.
“Our plan includes the development of the Cape Coast Airport, funded by the $2 billion Korean facility, the establishment of an MRO facility at Tamale Airport to make it a cargo and logistics hub, and the construction of a new airport in the Upper East Region,” Dr Bawumia stated.
