The family of highlife legend Dada Kwaku Duah, popularly known as Dada K.D., has announced a new date for his final funeral rites following another rescheduling.

Originally set for Saturday, August 16, 2025, and later moved to September 6, the state-assisted burial will now take place on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at the Forecourt of the State House, Accra.

A family representative explained that the change was due to a ban on funerals in the Ashanti Region imposed by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to allow for the successful performance of the final funeral rites for the late Asantehemaa, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II.

“It is not our intention to reschedule, but traditions are traditions, and we cannot go against them. We need to change the date until after the royal funeral on September 18. So, we have pushed ours to September 20, no longer the 6th,” the family representative said.

Preparations and the venue for the burial remain unchanged. The burial will be followed by a final thanksgiving service on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at Agona Asamang in the Ashanti Region, the late musician’s hometown.

Dada K.D., celebrated for highlife classics such as Fatia Fata Nkrumah and Ewurade Ye M’ade, passed away on May 17, 2025, after a brief illness. He was 54 years old.

He leaves behind five children and a rich musical legacy that has left an indelible mark on Ghana’s highlife tradition.
