The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has announced that a future NDC government will bring an end to the protocol system of recruitment into the security services and other public institutions.

Addressing party executives and faithful in Sekondi-Takoradi as part of his “Thank You Tour” in the Western Region, he also appealed to party members to retain any executive who worked hard for the party’s victory in the 2024 polls.

On the fourth day of his “Thank You Tour” through the Effia, Kwesimintsim, Takoradi, and Sekondi constituencies in the Western Region, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), made an appeal to party members.

He urged them to retain any executive who worked hard to secure the party’s victory in the 2024 polls.

“Those who worked hard and diligently we should retain them, but those who worked otherwise shouldn’t be entertained in the party,” he stated, emphasizing that this principle was crucial to sustaining the party’s strength at the constituency level.

The Chairman also announced that a future NDC government will bring an end to the protocol system of recruitment into the security services and other public institutions.

“The truth is that there should be no recruitment protocol for the security services at all. This system was created by the former NPP government during their tenure, who shared the positions among themselves without public knowledge. President Mahama rightly made a bold promise to abolish such practices and open recruitment to all qualified candidates. Therefore, the small quota currently allocated to Members of Parliament will also be cancelled.

“This change will align with President Mahama’s agenda to ensure that anyone can apply for vacant positions based on merit, without special protocols for anyone,” he added.

During the visit, some traditional leaders in the constituencies called on the National Chairman for assistance with local development projects. A particular issue raised was the urgent need to complete the Takoradi Market Circle project. Nana Obo Kojo Atta IV, the Chief of Takoradi, emphasized this point, highlighting the community’s need to see the long-awaited project expedited.

“Chairman, we are pleading for your help to return our market women to their old market circle. There are now many complaints about their current situation. Some months ago, vendors at Jubilee Park were evacuated to allow for the park’s rehabilitation, and this severely affected their businesses.

“Therefore, we urgently request that the stalled Takoradi Market Circle project be prioritized and completed in full. Expediting this process is crucial so that our market women can finally return to their rightful place and resume their trade,” he mentioned.
