The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ga West, Hon. John Desmond Sowah Nai, has visited the Amasaman Fire Command following concerns raised about logistical challenges facing the station.
He was accompanied by the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mrs. Louisa Benon, during the inspection exercise.
The visit came after the Fire Commander earlier submitted a letter to the Assembly indicating that their fire tender was faulty and not in good working condition. According to the MCE, the Assembly managed to provide funds to repair the fire tender to make it operational again.
However, he noted that the station still lacks adequate tools and equipment to effectively respond to emergencies whenever residents call for assistance. He also revealed that the Assembly has supported the station by drilling a borehole to improve their water supply.
Sowah Nai further appealed to the government and the leadership of the Ghana National Fire Service to provide additional personnel and logistics to the Amasaman Fire Command.
He explained that Ga West is the third largest constituency in Ghana, and poor road networks make it difficult for firefighters to respond quickly to emergencies. The MCE pledged the Assembly’s continued support and called on stakeholders to help strengthen the Fire Service to protect lives and property in the municipality.
