The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has urged the media and the public to refrain from speculative and unsubstantiated commentary regarding the recent Air Force 2-9 helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region, which claimed the lives of all eight personnel on board.
In a statement signed by VA Arhin, Captain (Ghana Navy) and Acting Director General of Public Relations, GAF said it had observed “many speculative and unsubstantiated commentaries” about the tragic incident, which occurred on 6 August 2025.
“For the sake of the bereaved families and loved ones, the Armed Forces urges media practitioners, panelists, social commentators, bloggers, and content creators to be circumspect in their reportage,” the statement read. “This is a way of according respect to the memories of the fallen heroes and mitigating the sorrows of their bereaved families.”
According to GAF, while it appreciates the immense public interest in the crash, “painstaking investigations have begun to unravel the cause of the incident,” with steps being taken to collaborate with international agencies to bring closure.
“At this point in time, any purported conclusions based on opinions, perceptions, and conjectures will be premature and misleading,” Captain Arhin cautioned, advising the public to be wary of such reports.
The Armed Forces expressed gratitude to the government, institutions, and individuals for their support during this difficult period and extended its condolences to the bereaved families.
“May the souls of our patriots continue to rest in peace,” the statement concluded.
