The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Education Corps has held the 2022 end-of-year Teachers and Schools Awards coupled with a Send-off ceremony for retired teaching and non-teaching staff at the Arakan Officers Mess, Burma Camp.
Retired and serving teachers who have performed creditably within the period were awarded for their outstanding performances.
Some selected schools of the 5 Garrison Basic Schools were also awarded.
In a welcome address, the Chief Garrison Education Officer (CGEO), Colonel Livingstone Yaw Penti expressed his profound gratitude to the teachers of 5 Garrison Basic Schools for their effort in training the children.
He acknowledged the continuous sacrifices and dedication of the teachers and the Ghana Education Service (GES).
Col Penti stated that teachers play a vital role in the lives of their pupils and without them, one’s life journey would be more difficult right from childhood till adulthood and even beyond.
He added that teachers serve as mentors to guide pupils on how to achieve goals and most importantly prepare them for a world full of uncertainties.
The CGEO stressed that there can be no profession better than the one that educates, informs, inspires, encourages and at the same time teaches to inculcate a way of life that is for the betterment of children.
He added that “We are greater than the sum of our individual ambitions and we remain more than just a collection of teachers.
We are and forever will be the 5 Garrison family.
We rise and fall as a unit and as one people, let’s resist the temptation to fail.”
Col Penti thanked all stakeholders for their contribution to making GAF Education Corps accomplish its task.
In all, 19 retirees were awarded for their distinguished services to the Education Corps as well as some deserving teachers and schools.
Madam Gloria Delali Xatse was adjudged the overall best teacher while Services Primary and Junior High School was awarded the overall best school.
