A 32-year-old labourer, Kwabena Frimpong, has been convicted by the Adenta Circuit Court for stealing three air-condition outdoor units valued at GH¢12,000 from his employer’s residence in Amrahia, a suburb of Accra.

Frimpong, who had worked as a gardener for a retired university lecturer for five years, pleaded guilty to the charge when he appeared before Her Honour Sarah Nyarkoa Nkansa.

The accused told the court he was under financial pressure and resorted to theft after his pregnant wife requested money.

He admitted selling the stolen items for GH¢1,000 each to a friend identified only as Ebenezer, whose current whereabouts are unknown.

According to Chief Inspector Eric Ransford Abban, who led the prosecution, Frimpong committed the theft two months ago while working on the complainant’s compound. He removed the air-condition units and fled the premises, subsequently going into hiding.

He was eventually arrested on April 16, 2025, at a construction site near the Kotoka International Airport. During police interrogation, Frimpong confessed to selling the units in Dawhenya but claimed he could not help retrieve them, as he did not know Ebenezer’s address.

Though convicted on his own plea, Frimpong was remanded into police custody pending sentencing. The case has been adjourned to May 26, 2025.
