The leadership of the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) has agreed to call off the strike after signing a memorandum of agreement with the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) on Thursday, February 8, 2024.

The Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) threatened to lay down its tools if the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) and Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) failed to address the concerns of university senior staff to the government over the blatant disregard for their welfare on Wednesday, January 17, 2024.

According to the association, their calls for the payment of their two-tier pension and overtime allowance requests have gone unheeded, resulting in the strike.

A memorandum of agreement signed by GAUA and GTEC directs them to withdraw the case from the National Labour Commission (NLC) and pledges to take all necessary steps to prevent a similar impasse in the future.

“The memorandum of agreement notwithstanding, parties herein further agree to continue engaging as and when necessary”, a portion of the statement highlighted.
