Residents of Gbawe Zero community in the Ga South Municipal Assembly are calling on the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey and the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare to stop a construction exercise going on in the middle of a road at Gbawe Zero close to the Pentecost Church.
According to residents, the construction is believed to be illegal since workers sneak around at night to go about their activities.
The residents in a press conference have appealed to the Minister of Roads and Highways, Hon. Amoako Atta immediately act within his powers to stop the unknown persons building in the middle of the road to avoid looming disaster.
A Unit Committee member in the area, Michael, disclosed to REPUBLICONLINE that the illegal construction which poses danger to residents in the community was reported to the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Joseph Nyarni, who visited the site to stop contractors from working but they returned to continue their work after a few minutes.
He further added that the association met with the assembly engineers who indicated that they have not given any permit for the construction.
“As we speak, the Odorkor police command has halted the operations and has requested a building permit”, he said.
Despite the Odorkor police command’s action, the residents believe it won’t be long before the contractors return to the site since the chiefs have indicated they are the custodial owners of the land and can do anything with it.
Meanwhile, the residents have also threatened to take matters into their own hands if contractors return to the site.
