The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, visited the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital to witness the discharge of the rescued infant.

The baby, who was allegedly stolen at the Mamprobi Poly clinic and later rescued through a coordinated effort had been receiving medical care at the hospital (Child Health Department). Through the dedicated work of health professionals, the child has fully recovered and was discharged in good health.

During her visit, the Minister expressed gratitude to the medical team for their swift intervention and quality care. She confirmed that the Government, following the directive of H. E. President John Dramani Mahama, had settled the baby’s medical bills to ease burden on the family.

The mother has also received psychological support and is responding well. Both mother and child are expected to return for periodic reviews to ensure the baby’s continued well-being.

Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey also took time to visit the hospital’s Child Protection Unit to commend staff for their professionalism and commitment to safeguarding children.

As part of her follow-up engagements, the Minister proceeded to the Dansoman Police Station where she met with officers handling the case. She commended the police for for their swift and coordinated response, which led to the rescue of the child.

The Minister was briefed on the progress of investigation and the ongoing legal processes. The accused person had been put before court, and investigations are continuing.

In a rare moment of empathy and leadership, the Sector Minister engaged the accused person and a close relative, underscoring the need for due process while reaffirming government’s commitment to justice and child protection.

The Minister also passed through the Mamprobi Poly clinic to settle outstanding medical bills incurred at the facility before the baby’s transfer to Korle-Bu.

The Minister conveyed appreciation from H.E. John Dramani Mahama and the First Lady to Ghanaians, especially the media, for the overwhelming support shown to the family during the ordeal. She emphasised that the incident highlights the importance of collaboration between social protection institutions and law enforcement agencies in safeguarding children.

“The joy of all this is that the baby is well”, she noted, encouraging the public to remain vigilant and supportive of child protection efforts nationwide.
