A delegation from the ‘Unemployed Graduates with Disability’ on Monday 21st May 2023 – called on the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP), Madam Hajia Lariba Zuweira Abudu at the Ministry’s Headquarters.

The move was to inform the Minister of the difficulties they are being faced with in the country in terms of getting jobs after their national service and to relay the mistreatment they go through in the hands of some institutions when seeking to be recruited.

It was also to find out how Ministry for Gender, Children and Social Protection [MoGCSP] can be of help.

Receiving the delegation, the sector Minister commended them for pouring out their grievances and advised them to never be discouraged in applying for jobs.

Madam Zuweira Abudu reiterated that disability is never an inability.

She assured them that her Ministry will dialogue with various stakeholders and institutions to advocate for slots so that they can be employed in different fields after their National Service.

Leader of the delegation, Mr. Prosper Amenyo Adeku on behalf of the team expressed his appreciation for the efforts made by the Government for enrolling Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) into school.

He suggested that the Department of Social Welfare in the various districts should liaise with the District Chief Executives (DCEs) to help them get jobs in order to avoid the stress of always coming to Accra.

Mr Amenyo Adeku, therefore appealed to Government to reserve a quota of all recruitments into the Public Sector for the PWDs with Professional Qualifications.

Present at the meeting were the Chief Director for MoGCSP, Dr. Afisah Zakariah and the Director for Human Resource Management Directorate, Madam Vida Owusuaa Mensah.
