The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection has condemned in no uncertain terms the cruel, brutal, and barbaric act meted out to the young lady in a viral video at Kupelga in the Upper East region.

In a press statement, the Ministry noted that the act is a blatant breach of her human rights and dignity and is thus punishable by law.

The Ministry applauded the Ghana Police Service for putting out a call for a manhunt for the culprits in the case.

“Ministry is appealing to the public to provide the police with any information that may enable them to capture the offenders.” the statement noted

The disturbing video circulating on social media shows a young lady who has been identified as a Fulani being molested and manhandled by a group of individuals.

The video, which lasts for two minutes and 19 seconds, shows a group of people beating and assaulting the naked woman.

Meanwhile, the Police have arrested four suspects at Kupelga in connection with the viral video in which a female victim is seen being subjected to inhumane and degrading treatment by a group of people.

The suspects, Awizore Amolt, Akolbila Asorwogo, Atibila Aladago and Akolbila Ben, were arrested in a Police intelligence operation in the early hours of today, 13th June 2023, following a preliminary investigation into the said video.

The four suspects are currently in Police custody and assisting the investigation while efforts continue to arrest other accomplices to face justice.

According to the Police, they are in touch with the victim and her family and arrangements have been made for a Police clinical psychologist to provide her psycho-social support.

READ THE FULL STATEMENT BELOW.

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection’s attention has been drawn to a disturbing video circulating on social media in which a young lady who has been identified as a Fulani is said to have been molested and manhandled.

The video, which lasts for two minutes and 19 seconds, shows a group of people beating and assaulting a naked woman. Violence against women and girls is not justified and must not be tolerated no matter where, how and who committed the offence.

The adverse consequences of violence on women and girls in relation to their health, psychological and emotional well-being compromise and undermine their development and this must not be encouraged.

The Ministry strongly condemns this cruel, brutal, and barbaric act meted out to the young lady. This act is a blatant breach of her human rights and dignity and is thus punishable by law.

We applaud the Ghana Police Service for putting out a call for a manhunt for the culprits in the case. As a result, the Ministry issues an appeal to the public to provide the police with any information that may enable them to capture the offenders.

Finally, we advise the public to maintain their vigilance ad report individuals who commit these unlawful acts.
