Gender Ministry inaugurates 3 Boards

The Human Trafficking (HT) Management, Domestic Violence and the Central Adoption Authority Boards have been inaugurated by the Caretaker Minister for the Ministry of Gender Children and Social Protection, Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah on Thursday, November 4, 2021 in Accra.

The boards were inaugurated to combat human trafficking and its related issues, protect people from gender-based violence, and also ensure best adoption practices in the country.

The eighteen-member human trafficking management board is expected to propose and promote strategies that will help prevent and combat trafficking in persons, conduct research on international & regional developments and standards on trafficking in persons.

Among other key duties, the HT management board is to deal with any matter concerned with human trafficking.

The fifteen-member Domestic Violence Board which would be chaired by the Deputy Minister for MoGCSP, Hon. Lariba Zuweira Abudu is expected to advise the Minister on policy matters under the Domestic Violence Act and also link government agencies and organizations to promote the rehabilitation and re-integration of victims of domestic violence amongst others.

The nine-member board of the Central Adoption Authority set to be chaired by the Chief Director of the Ministry, Dr. Afisah Zakariah, has been tasked to ensure that current reforms in the adoption process in the country are sustained by putting in place pragmatic measures that will encourage a continuous post adoption monitoring of adoptive families for both in-country and inter-country adoption.

In her inaugural statement, Hon. Cecilia Abena Dapaah, urged the respective boards members to collaborate effectively in developing effective strategies that would benefit all citizens.

She urged board members to work assiduously to ensure that no one is left behind in the developmental agenda of the country.
