The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, with support from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), has established Market Response Centres in nine markets across the country.
These centres aim to combat sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV).
A total of 110 market executives have been trained as paralegals to refer SGBV cases to the appropriate authorities and provide public sensitization on the issue.
Additionally, the UNFPA Ghana supported the Domestic Violence Secretariat (DVS) of the Ministry to set up the Orange Call Centre.
This centre provides a safe space for victims of domestic abuse to receive professional support, including psychosocial services, legal assistance, emergency shelter referrals, and information on SGBV and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR).
To raise awareness about these services, the Domestic Violence Secretariat organized outreach programmes in selected markets in Accra, including Domi, Teshie, Agbogbloshie, Nima, Madina, and Kaneshie.
These efforts aim to educate the public on domestic and sexual violence and promote the resources available through the Orange Support Centre.
The toll-free number for the Orange Support Centre is: 0-800-111-222.
