The Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, welcomed a delegation from the Roshelle Brago Boakye (ROBB) Foundation, a non-governmental organization dedicated to raising awareness and advocating for individuals with Down syndrome.
The delegation, which included parents and their children living with Down syndrome, sought to collaborate with the Ministry in preparation for World Down Syndrome Day, observed globally on March 21.
Established in 2016, the ROBB Foundation brings together health professionals and volunteers to advocate for policy changes and provide innovative services that empower individuals with Down syndrome to lead fulfilling lives.
During the meeting, Dr. Lartey reaffirmed the government’s commitment to inclusivity, in alignment with President John Mahama’s vision of ensuring that no one is left behind.
She emphasized the Ministry’s dedication to reducing vulnerability among persons with disabilities and safeguarding their rights.
“Count me as your key partner in ensuring that persons with Down syndrome are protected,” she assured the delegation.
The ROBB Foundation presented a petition outlining both immediate and long-term strategies to improve support systems for individuals with Down syndrome.
In response, the Minister pledged to review the proposals in collaboration with relevant stakeholders and integrate them into the Ministry’s policy decisions.
As a demonstration of solidarity, the Ministry announced its participation in the upcoming World Down Syndrome Day events organized by the ROBB Foundation on March 21, 2025.
This partnership underscores a shared commitment to enhancing support systems and promoting the rights of individuals with Down syndrome in Ghana.
The government continues to implement initiatives aimed at improving the lives of persons with disabilities, including policies that increase their representation in decision-making processes and enhance accessibility in public spaces. These efforts reflect a broader commitment to building an inclusive society where every individual, regardless of ability, has the opportunity to thrive.
