Following the successful training workshop conducted for journalists on social protection in Kumasi (for both the Northern & Middle Zones), the Social Protection Directorate (SPD) of the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MoGCSP) organized another capacity-building workshop for journalists from the Southern Zone focusing on Social Protection (SP).
During this workshop, journalists received comprehensive training in reporting and advocacy related to social protection, including its policies, programs, and interventions.
The objective of this initiative is to deepen journalists’ understanding of SP programs, their goals, and the latest developments, while also equipping them with effective reporting techniques, data analysis skills, and ethical considerations pertinent to social protection issues.
In her address at the training session, the Acting Director of the Social Protection Directorate, Madam Abena Annobea Asare, underscored that the training aimed to empower journalists to articulate social protection issues more constructively and to enhance advocacy efforts for the successful implementation of the SP policy.
She encouraged journalists to engage actively with social protection matters and collaborate closely with the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection to address various vulnerabilities within the country.
Through these collaborative efforts, the Social Protection Directorate aims to bridge the gap between its significant achievements and public awareness, thereby ensuring increased visibility, support, and sustainability for the program’s objectives of poverty alleviation and social empowerment.
