The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MoGCSP) wrapped up its 2024 Breast Cancer Awareness campaign on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at the ministry headquarters.

Following successful outreach to female inmates at Nsawam Prison, Kaneshie market women, and students at Kingsway Cluster of Schools in October, the campaign’s conclusion focused on educating ministry staff on breast cancer prevention and early detection.

The session, organized by MoGCSP’s Department of Gender and Human Resource Management Directorate, was led by Madam Vera Karikari, Deputy Director of the Department of Gender, with a breast cancer awareness talk by Senior Nurse Madam Doris Agyei from the Greater Accra Regional Hospital.

Topics covered included the risks and nature of breast cancer, early detection practices, and preventive measures like regular exercise, limited alcohol intake, adequate sleep, and a healthy lifestyle.

The event concluded with a breast cancer screening, giving attendees practical skills such as self-examination techniques and encouraging routine check-ups.

Staff emphasized the importance of ongoing community outreach to combat stigma, bridge knowledge gaps, and lower breast cancer mortality rates through early intervention and preventive care.
