A three-member delegation from Georgetown, the capital and largest city of Guyana, popularly known as the “Garden City of the Caribbean”, has paid a courtesy call on the Mayor of Accra to discuss areas of cooperation and deepen ties between the two cities.

The visit was aimed at strengthening historical and cultural links between Ghana and Guyana while exploring opportunities for collaboration in urban development.

The Mayor of Accra, Hon Michael Kpakpo Allotey, who warmly welcomed the delegation led by Deputy Mayor Denise Althee Miller, was delighted about the prospect of deepening cooperation between the two cities.

He said the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) was open to collaboration and committed to sharing best practices, particularly in the areas of sanitation, climate resilience, urban planning, revenue mobilisation, and city management.

Mayor Allotey noted that Accra continued to champion innovative approaches to improving service delivery and would be happy to work with Georgetown in exchanging technical knowledge and experiences that could mutually support both cities.

Speaking during the engagement, Deputy Mayor Denise Althee Miller stated that she had travelled to Accra specifically to meet the Mayor, noting that both cities shared striking similarities in their developmental challenges and social outlook.
