Germany has pledged €65 million (approximately GH¢823 million) to support Ghana’s development initiatives in youth employment, renewable energy, and technical training.

The announcement was made by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier during a joint press briefing with President John Dramani Mahama at the Jubilee House in Accra on Monday, November 3, 2025.

Speaking through an interpreter, President Steinmeier said the pledge—pending approval by the German Parliament (Bundestag)—forms part of Germany’s long-standing development partnership with Ghana.

“Germany will again commit more than 65 million euros to Ghana under our development cooperation framework,” he said. “The details will be finalized before the end of this month.”

He explained that the funding will reinforce ongoing projects in energy efficiency, renewable energy, and skills development to promote sustainable economic growth. Education and vocational training, particularly for young people, were key areas of discussion between the two leaders.

President Steinmeier noted that Germany is actively supporting training in healthcare, pharmaceutical, and digital sectors to create decent jobs for Ghanaian youth.

On his fourth visit to Ghana, the German President also announced plans to establish regular high-level political consultations to deepen cooperation in trade, security, and climate action.

President Mahama, for his part, described Germany as a “steadfast and reliable partner,” adding that the new funding commitment reflects both nations’ shared goals of youth empowerment, renewable energy expansion, and digital transformation under Ghana’s Resetting Ghana Agenda.

He assured that Ghana will continue to provide a favorable investment climate for German businesses, especially under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) headquartered in Accra.

President Steinmeier’s three-day state visit continues with engagements with young IT innovators in Accra and an inspection of Ghana–Germany cooperation projects in technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in the Ashanti Region.
