The Ghana Education Service (GES) in the Eastern Region has imposed a two-year ban on Koforidua Senior High Technical School, New Juaben Senior High School, and New Nsutam Senior High Technical School following incidents of gang rape and stabbing during a recent inter-school sports competition in Koforidua.

The sanctions bar the three schools from organising, participating in, or attending all sporting and co-curricular activities, including quizzes, debates, cadet programmes, and entertainment events. Each school has also been fined GH¢500 and will bear any costs resulting from property damage or injuries linked to the incidents.

Eastern Regional Director of Education, Ivy Asantewa Owusu, announced the disciplinary action in a press release, citing breaches of the GES Code of Conduct on physical and psychological violence and the Eastern Region Schools and Colleges Sports Association Code of Discipline.

According to the statement, investigations revealed that students from the affected schools were involved in acts of hooliganism and violence, violating established disciplinary standards.

Meanwhile, two underage students have been arrested and are facing prosecution over the alleged gang rape of a female student during the sports event. A third suspect, believed to be a former student, remains on the run.

Police have charged the suspects with conspiracy to commit a crime and rape. In a separate development, another student has been arrested for allegedly stabbing a colleague near the sports stadium during the same event.
