The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced the immediate revocation of appointments and recruitment of both teaching and non-teaching staff who have not yet been placed on the payroll.
This directive follows an order from the Office of the President, communicated through the Chief of Staff’s office.
In a memo dated 17th February 2025, Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis, the Acting Director-General of GES, instructed all Regional and District/Municipal/Metropolitan Directors of Education to ensure strict adherence to the new policy. The decision impacts those staff members whose appointments had not been formalized through payroll placement.
The move aligns with a previous letter issued on 10th February 2025 (Ref. No. SCR/DA/85/85/01/A) from the Office of the President, signalling an immediate pause on recruitment processes for non-payrolled employees in the education sector.
GES officials have emphasized that further directives will be issued as necessary. The action is expected to streamline recruitment practices within the sector and ensure proper payroll management.
The Minister of Education, Deputy Minister of Education, and Chief Director of the Ministry of Education have all been copied in the official communication, as the Education Ministry continues to implement changes in line with government policy.
