Management of the Ghana Education Service, GES, have invited the leadership of the various teacher unions made of Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU), and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT) for a meeting on July 5,2022.
In a press release, management of the Ghana Education Service is meeting the leadership of these unions to discuss the development and the way forward of their withdrawal from the service leading to the indefinite strike.
“Heads of Senior High Schools have been directed through the Regional and District Directors to mobilise their management team to ensure the safety and well being of all students in schools,” the release stated.
According to the release signed by the Head of Public Relations Unit, Cassandra Twum Ampofo, Regional and District Directors have been directed to ensure that basic school heads keep school opened and closely supervise all children who report to school pending further directives from managements of Ghana Education Service.
Parents are urged to stay calm since measures are being put in place to settle the issue at hand.
The four major teacher unions began an indefinite nationwide strike on Monday, July 4, 2022.
According to the unions, the industrial action is meant to drive home their demands for Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) which have so far fallen on the deaf ears of the government.
In a joint press statement issued and signed by the leadership of the unions, made up of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), the Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers Ghana (CCT), they requested that the 20% of their basic salary to be paid to them.
