The Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Professor. Akwasi Opoku Amankwa has advised new teachers who have been cleared by the government, waiting for postings to accept wherever they are posted to.
According to him, it’s very worrying how some people give flimsy excuses all in the name of dodging their new places of the post.
He said the GES is not going to tolerate such excuses from teachers, and that they must be ready to accept any place they’re being posted to.
Citing himself as an example, the Director-General said he started his professional teaching career from a deep village called Fiankoma in the Jacobu area and by the grace of God, he’s risen to this level.
He has therefore entreated all the newly cleared teachers to accept whatever post they may get since he believes every area in Ghana deserves to enjoy the services of teachers.
He warned that anyone who refuses to comply with a new post maybe is replaced by another person.
The Director-General disclosed this in an interview with the media after a 100th year anniversary launched a program for the Wesley College of Education (WESCO) on Tuesday, November 23, 2021.
Delivering a keynote address, Professor Opoku Amankwa who happens to be a Wescoper commended the school for its excellent contribution to the development of Ghana.
According to him, the school needed to be applauded for producing great personalities into the system. He however stood on behalf of the other students to pledge their commitment to helping support the school.
Lastly, Prof. Opoku Amankwa single-handedly donated GhC10,000 towards the school’s fundraising project that’s set for the next year 2022. Other dignitaries that were present and most of them of whom are former students of the school included Mr. Samuel Pyne, mayor of Kumasi, an uncountable number of chiefs, politicians, clergies, etc.
First-ever female chancellor of the school, Mrs. Charlotte Rockson also delivering her speech said the school had gone very far from a scratch indicating its achievement.
She narrated the history of the school and its achievement so far.
