The decisive moment came six minutes before halftime when Martín Satriano produced a moment of brilliance. After a cross into the box was only partially cleared, the ball dropped invitingly to the Uruguayan forward, who unleashed a stunning volley from about 20 metres that beat Thibaut Courtois and flew into the roof of the net.
Madrid controlled large spells of possession but struggled to break down a disciplined Getafe defence marshalled superbly in front of goalkeeper David Soria. The shot-stopper frustrated the hosts with key saves, including denying Vinicius Junior in a one-on-one situation and tipping over a powerful strike from Arda Güler.
The absence of Kylian Mbappe, who remains sidelined with a knee ligament injury, was evident as Madrid lacked their usual cutting edge in attack. Head coach Alvaro Arbeloa made three substitutions early in the second half to inject energy into the team, but the breakthrough never came.
Antonio Rudiger sent a near-post header narrowly wide, while substitute Rodrygo nodded an effort across goal that Dani Carvajal failed to convert at the far post. Despite increasing pressure and a series of crosses into the box, Getafe’s resolute backline stood firm.
Tempers flared in stoppage time when Franco Mastantuono was shown a straight red card for dissent towards referee Alejandro Muniz Ruiz. Getafe were also reduced to 10 men moments later after Adrian Liso received a second yellow card for time wasting, but the late dismissal did not affect the outcome.
The victory was historic for Getafe, marking their first win at the Bernabeu since 2008. The three points lift them to 11th place in the table, eight points clear of the relegation zone, while Madrid must quickly regroup ahead of their next league fixture against Celta Vigo as they seek to avoid a third straight defeat.
