Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, has disclosed that the government will by Thursday, May 16, 2024, release an amount of GH¢177 million to the Ministry of Health to clear arrears owed to nursing trainees in the country.

This comes after the students have been demanding payment for their allowances, which have been overdue for several months.

Meanwhile, during a meeting of nursing trainees in the North East Region of Ghana, Dr. Bawumia urged the students to be patient, as they will from next week receive their allowances.

“When I heard that nursing trainees were having challenges allowances, I decided to engage the Ministry of Finance to see what can be done and we have been able to decide on what to do. So the minister of finance has sent me a message which says that on Thursday, the controller and Accountants General is going to transfer GH¢177 million to the Ministry of Health.

“So on Thursday, we will transfer this money to the Ministry and they will also transfer it to the nursing trainees across the country. So I believe that by next week, all of you will be experiencing the nursing training allowances dropping in your accounts,” he said.
