Road infrastructure projects and critical roadworks across Ghana are poised for significant delays as workers of the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) announce an indefinite strike set to begin on Tuesday, November 12.
The strike is in direct response to the government’s refusal to pause the implementation of the National Roads Authority Act, 2024 (Act 1118), a controversial new legislation that workers claim could harm the country’s roads sector.
Central to the workers’ demands is the removal of two key officials: Ing. I.K. Mensah, Chairman of the GHA Board, and Ing. Collins B. Donkor, Chief Executive Officer of the National Roads Authority (NRA). Workers argue that these officials have made decisions that threaten the integrity and functionality of road infrastructure management.
This action follows a formal petition to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, where GHA employees requested broader consultations with stakeholders before moving forward with the Act’s implementation.
