Ghana and South Korea have agreed to begin negotiations on a visa waiver agreement following bilateral talks between their leaders.

According to Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the decision was reached after a meeting between President John Dramani Mahama and South Korean President Lee Jae-myung.

In a social media post on Friday, Mr. Ablakwa said both countries had directed their foreign ministers to begin discussions aimed at finalising the agreement by June this year.

“Following President Mahama’s meeting with President Lee Jae Myung, Ghana and the Republic of Korea have decided to open negotiations on a visa waiver agreement,” he stated.

The proposed agreement is expected to ease travel restrictions between the two countries and further strengthen diplomatic and economic relations.

Mr. Ablakwa added that the public would be updated on developments as negotiations progress.

The move marks a significant step in deepening cooperation between Ghana and South Korea, particularly in areas such as trade, investment and bilateral engagement.
